I lived in the UAE for several years. I would never buy a premium used car from there- the folks who can afford them treat their cars as disposable, one-use items. Also, a lot of the maintenance is sub-par, but there are some excellent shops. That was probably the first oil change that car has had. Upside is it probably has the upgraded cooling system. I am not a hater- I loved my time there and I love the people there, it felt like home to me. But I would be very careful about buying a Ferrari from dubai.

Aw this brings back memories - The manual 456GT was the first Ferrari I was ever driven in, aged 10, and it woke me up to the passion and excellence that goes into supercars, which I'd always dismissed as the playthings of the compensating beforehand.

Just had all the sticky interior bits redone on a Maserati Quattroporte for $3300.00. Rubberized “soft touch” coating over the plastic buttons. They remove that then repaint the buttons with the backlit logos in place. No rubber coating goes back on. It’s labor intensive and messy. www.stickynomore.com is who I use.

You need to check your facts. Cars are exempted from EPA regulations after 21 years of age. Cars are exempted from DOT regulations after 25 years of age. Only California is exempted from the federal government to have its separate EPA requirements.

I owned a 456m for 11 years. “Money Pit” is too kind a description. Even with very low mileage, be prepared to replace the valve guides (watch for smoke) at around $10-12K, over and above the $10k major service. Replace the motor mounts with the upgraded 575 mounts before they collapse. You will soon have a gap in between the driver side window and the door frame if you don’t already. A very fiddler fix that will need to be redone every year or so until you finally have to replace the mechanism entirely. The alarm will die due to a corroded battery. Fortunately the Corvette alarm is identical, just a slightly different sound. The 456 also has a moveable spoiler which was replaced with a fixed spoiler in the M, because it was unreliable. On the other hand, it’s beautiful and fast and sings like an angel at high revs....

Hmm...I imported a car from the UAE (also left through Dubai in Jebel Ali) to the USA (Ohio). Cost was right around $4k and paperwork took me about a day to do. Shipping took about 75 days from me dropping it off, and it being delivered.

Re: diesel leak - diesel is combustable, under pressure, but not all that flammable. Not saying an engine covered in diesel fuel is safe, but it’s not nearly as dangerous as a gasoline leak.
